Position Summary

South Metropolitan Health Services 2024 Medical Intake:

Fellow Ophthalmic Surgery (Vitreo-Retinal)

MP Year 1-2 $168,679 - $177,010 p.a. Pro Rata

Fixed Term Part Time (0.9 FTE) appointments for 12 months with the possibility of extension(s).

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/09/2023 


Position Profile: 
This is a 12-month fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery with the Department of ophthalmology based at Fremantle Hospital.

This busy department provides a comprehensive ophthalmic service to south metropolitan Perth and rural Western Australia. It consists of 13 part time consultants providing subspecialty services in in medical & surgical cornea, medical & surgical glaucoma, oculoplastic surgery, uveitis, medical and surgical retina.

The position is suited to a senior trainee registrar who has completed or in the process of completing his or her primary specialty training in ophthalmology. Prior vitreoretinal surgical experience is not essential, but competency in cataract & pterygium surgery, performing retinal laser and intravitreal injections is essential.

The weekly timetable consists of 2 supervised vitreoretinal theatre session, 1 injection clinic, 1 laser clinic, 2 supervised vitreoretinal clinics and 1 medical retinal clinics and 2 general clinics.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in afterhours management of vitreoretinal disorders.
