Position Profile:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Medical Registrar/ Advanced Trainee (SMR/AT) to join our growing Kalgoorlie Health Campus General Medicine department, in providing a high standard of medical care to patients in the Goldfields region.

The SMR/AT would be responsible for the management of both inpatient and outpatient services. The Goldfields- Esperance region has a relatively young population hence a wide variety of acute and chronic General Medicine patients of all ages from 16 years upwards. There are great opportunities to learn and do diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in General Medicine. There is a sizable population of Aboriginal patients providing fantastic opportunities to learn their culture and be involved in the care of these patients close to home. The department also has daily outpatient services, and the SMR/AT would have the opportunity to conduct independent outpatient services. There are 3 fulltime Consultant Physicians who would provide support and supervision. These consultants all provide acute & General Medicine services and have other speciality qualifications like infectious disease or special interest like Diabetes & Rheumatology. There are multidisciplinary diabetes clinic services and we offer insulin pump initiation and management. There are outpatient antibiotic management clinics and we have an antimicrobial stewardship program at the hospital.

The role also provides leadership, training, supervision and education for junior medical doctors and training registrars in consultation with the Consultant Physicians.  There are also opportunities for audits and research

General Kalgoorlie Information:

Kalgoorlie Health Campus is a 100-bed inpatient facility and the largest regional public hospital in WA.  When you join the team at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, you’ll become part of a close-knit community of health professionals including specialist general physicians, surgeons, paediatricians, OBGyn and emergency medicine doctors.  The hospital supports medical students through the Rural Clinical School, junior doctors rotating from Perth, Workplace Based Assessment doctors and registrars across a number of specialties. Fly in fly out clinicians and private clinicians provide additional supportive health services to the region.

Kalgoorlie is Australia's largest outback city, and the heart of Western Australia’s Goldfields region - Australia’s gold capital. The area is more than three times the size of Victoria and covers almost a third of WA’s total land mass. As the largest region in WA, its diverse natural environments range from sprawling deserts in the North and East to pristine white beaches and emerald seas in the South.  With a population of more than 30,000, the city is a dynamic and sophisticated regional centre and has many chain stores and services.  Sport facilities, clubs and societies and social services abound to support a good work life balance. Community is a key strength of the town. Being located inland the weather in Kalgoorlie is usually sunny, giving options to explore the outback and beach-side Esperance during your time off.
