2024 Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 12-24 months with the possibility of extension(s).
This is an exceptional opportunity to join the Child and Adolescent Neonatology Directorate, encompassing three separate but closely linked units: (i) the perinatal unit at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) for Women, (ii) the surgical neonatal unit at Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) and (iii) the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS) WA.
We pride ourselves as one of the largest perinatal and neonatal services in Australia, housing the only tertiary/quaternary perinatal centre in Western Australia. Additionally, we run the state-of-the-art surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the tertiary/quaternary paediatric centre at PCH, and NETS which transports critically ill neonates from peripheral hospitals in WA to our tertiary units in Perth.
This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:
- The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on a regular basis.
- Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.
- Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/05/2024
Position Profile: This recruitment process is for Senior Registrar (Fellow) positions at 3 separate locations within the directorate. Applicants for these positions will be able to indicate their preferred position at one of the units or express their interest in rotating through all three units. Consideration will be given to part-time/ job share arrangements.
These positions are on a shift-based roster, to provide a 24-hour/7-day service, including after-hours (evening, night and weekend) shifts.

Area Profile: The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) treats children from around Western Australia, and is committed to programs that promote lifelong health in children and adolescents. CAHS is made up of Neonatology, Community Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Perth Children’s Hospital.

- Please state your most recent Neonatal experience as a Neonatal Registrar or Neonatal Senior Registrar/ Fellow in a tertiary Neonatal Centre (within the last 5 years) with at least 6 months experience.
- Please provide an example demonstrating your advanced skills and expert level of knowledge in a neonatal intensive care setting, including advanced Neonatal airway skills.
- Please describe how you would utilise your communication and interpersonal skills to resolve a conflict situation with a parent to demonstrate your ability to practice family- centred care?
- Please provide an example of how you monitor and review your own clinical effectiveness, including awareness of own limitations.
- Please provide examples of how you demonstrate your commitment to professional development, including experience in clinical teaching, auditing and research.
- Please provide an example of how you demonstrate the CAHS values of Respect and Collaboration in your current clinical practice.
- Please provide an example of how you demonstrate your ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, please state how you demonstrate cultural awareness.
