Position Summary

Location: Pilbara, Western Australia

Hospital Site: Karratha Health Campus 

 

District Medical Officer – Procedural – DMO Year 1 – 3 $466,419 - $510,583 p.a.

(Inclusive of base salary, 10.5% superannuation, PD allowance and 36% hospital based on call allowance)

 WA Country Health Service – Karratha Health Campus is currently seeking a suitably experienced District Medical Officer Procedural – Anaesthetics for a Fixed Term Full Time position for up to 5 years, with the possibility of extension(s).

 

About the Position

In this role you will be involved in providing comprehensive medical and community health services to Karratha Health Campus and surrounding remote communities. This role is a combined General Practitioners (Rural Generalist) Emergency Medicine/ Anaesthetics role. The successful applicant must have developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a team of dedicated medical officers who work to provide exceptional care to the West Pilbara Region.

Experience in/or commitment to public health medicine and primary health care, working in a cross-cultural environment particularly with Aboriginal people and sound understanding of remote area health service provision is desirable.

The successful candidate must hold the appropriate AHPRA registration to be able to practise independently without clinical supervision. Candidates must also be hold fellowship from the College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practice (FRACGP). Additionally, candidates must hold a formal post graduate qualification in Anaesthetics (JCCA) and equivalent extensive experience. The successful candidate will be rostered to clinical duties in the emergency department and/or GP clinics at each hospital as well as being rostered on call as required, with an annualised on-call allowance payable for the on-call commitment shared with colleagues.

Demonstration of appropriate emergency department professional development is required by providing a record of appropriate Emergency Department skill maintenance in the last triennium of completion of at least 1 of the following and evidence of continued professional development:

  • ACLS (or equivalent)
  • APLS (or equivalent)
  • EMST (or equivalent)
  • GCCA (or equivalent)

 

About the Pilbara Region

The Pilbara Health Region of the WA Country Health Service covers the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. It is Western Australia's second most northern region, defined by the Indian Ocean to the west and the Northern Territory border to the east. The Kimberley region lies to its north across the Great Sandy Desert and the Pilbara's southern reaches border the Midwest and Goldfields regions. The region covers a total area of 507,896 sq km (including offshore islands). Most of the inhabitants are located in the western third, whereas the eastern third is largely desert with few inhabitants. The Pilbara came to national and international prominence during the 1960s when the go-ahead was given to extract iron ore deposits in the region.

 

About Karratha Health Campus

The $173 million Karratha Health Campus is the biggest investment in a public hospital ever undertaken in regional WA. It has an expanded emergency department, a new CT scanner, a brand-new surgical centre, new delivery suites and maternity wing, world-class Telehealth services, new and expanded outpatients and essential services such as child health and medical imaging, all under one roof bringing care closer to Home for the local community.
