ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director Clinical Services Mental Health is responsible for clinical governance and leadership in relation to clinical service delivery in partnership with the Regional Manager of Mental Health for Hedland (Pilbara East). The Director Clinical Services Mental Health services a key member of the regional Pilbara team providing clinical services where required and ensures the strategic development, coordination, integration, monitoring and evaluation of the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Pilbara Mental Health Service.
Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent). You will have demonstrated highly developed clinical skills and experience working with people with Mental Health problems and co-morbidities in a variety of settings with the ability to provide clinical leadership to multi-disciplinary teams.
You must have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work as an effective team member, promote positive peer, line management relationships and be able to provide accredited undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision & demonstrate a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
ABOUT THE REGION
The Pilbara is WA’s second most northern region, defined by the Indian Ocean to the west and the Northern Territory border to the east. The Kimberley Region lies to its north across the Great Sandy Desert and the Pilbara’s southern reaches border the Midwest and Goldfields regions. The region covers a total area of 507,896sq km (including offshore islands). Most of the inhabitants are located in the western third, whereas the eastern third is largely desert with few inhabitants. Today the Pilbara economy is crucial to the State, providing 2 of the State’s largest export revenue earners – iron ore and liquefied natural gas.
The Pilbara Mental Health & Drug Service (PMHDS) is a community based Mental Health Service, outreaching the other towns and communities, with in-reach as a Consultation Liaison (CL) service to the regional hospitals (ED/wards).
The service is divided into three community teams:
- Pilbara West – Adult/Youth – For Karratha, Roebourne, Wickham, Point Sampson, Pannawonica and Onslow. Situated on Karratha Health Campus.
- Pilbara East – Adult/Youth – For Hedland, Marble Bar, Nullagine, Newman, Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Western Desert. Situated as Head Office in Hedland Health Campus and a small satellite clinic at Newman.
- Child Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) - <18 years old – serving the entire region with main Clinic at Karratha, smaller clinics at Hedland and Newman, and outreach to the Inland Pilbara, and other sites as needed.
This is a recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:
- The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications and will assess on a regular basis.
- Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.
- Appointments may be made from this pool until 05/08/2024
