OTHER CONDITIONS:
The full-time annual base salary rate for an Intern is $79,479 (base salary) in addition to $5,742 (for Professional Development Allowance) in the WA Health System - Medical Practitioners - AMA Industrial Agreement 2016, the St John of God Health Care – AMA WA – Medical Practitioners Enterprise Agreement 2016 (St John of God Midland Hospital)and the Medical Practitioners Award 2020 (Joondalup Health Campus).

 

Interns shall be appointed on a fixed-term, full time contract with WA Health Service or Joondalup Health Campus for three years (subject to visa requirements). Interns at St John of God Midland Hospital will be offered a contract with St John of God Health Care for two years (subject to visa requirements). Interns can preference the following as their Primary Employing Health Service:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital
  • Joondalup Health Campus
  • Royal Perth Hospital
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
  • St John of God Midland Hospital, or
  • WA Country Health Service – (Albany Health Campus, Broome Regional Hospital or Bunbury Hospital).

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY:

  • Graduate from an Australian Medical Council accredited medical school. 
  • Not have commenced or completed an internship nor been registered or worked as a medical practitioner, either in Australia or overseas.
  • Be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Be eligible to work in Australia.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
WA Health Service and Joondalup Health Campus offer three year contracts, and  St John of God Health Care; two years (subject to visa requirements).

 

To fulfil training requirements, metropolitan based Interns have the opportunity to undertake rotations at a variety of metropolitan, rural or remote sites (see application guide for details).

 

The position will provide successful applicants the opportunity to complete an internship compliant with the requirements of the Medical Board of Australia registration standard “Granting general registration as a medical practitioner to Australian and New Zealand medical graduates on completion of intern training”. The position will require appointed candidates to perform satisfactorily under supervision in a range of accredited terms and complete the mandatory experience outlined in the registration standard.

Interns are required to perform satisfactorily under supervision in the following terms:

  • A term of at least 8 weeks that provides experience in emergency medical care
  • A term of at least 10 weeks that provides experience in medicine
  • A term of at least 10 weeks that provides experience in surgery
  • A range of other approved terms to make up 12 months (minimum of 47 weeks full time equivalent service).

All term rotations are accredited by the Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA) against approved accreditation standards for Intern training, and include the above experience.

Copy of IELTS, OET, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, NZREX or PLAB examination results or other accepted evidence as specified by the Medical Board’s English language skills registration standard (if applicable – refer to the Medical Board of Australia’s English language skills registration standard - medical for further information)
