About the role:

The Senior Medical Practitioner - Palliative Care is a pivotal member of the regional palliative care multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of comprehensive palliative care services in the Goldfields Region. Working collaboratively with the palliative care specialist and healthcare professionals, you will actively engage in patient-centred management, developing the capacity in generalist clinicians, and creating individualised care plans for complex cases. Your role will require you to work in a variety of setting, including outpatient clinic visits, ward rounds, home visits, and nursing home consultations.

The Goldfields region is home to a population of 52,348, including a 13% Aboriginal population. The region presents distinctive healthcare challenges due to its diverse makeup. Your vital responsibility is to deliver clinical services to this community with culture sensitivity, considering the prevalence of cancer diagnoses, particularly among low socio-economic status adults (approximately 80% of patients).

In this autonomous position, you will closely collaborate with clinical nurses and maintain regular communication with the Palliative Care Specialist, who attends Kalgoorlie every 3-4 weeks and is available by telephone at other times.

Be part of a team dedicated to overcoming challenges and providing quality care to the region's residents. Want to hear more? Check out the Working in Kalgoorlie Video!

Remuneration Package:

Senior Medical Practitioner Year 1-3 is $659.40 – 701.16 per session.

The above salary range is inclusive of base salary, a professional development allowance of $61.20 per session, and a 11% employer contribution towards superannuation.

The salary for this position is based on a sessional salary under the WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2022.

About the Region:

The Goldfields-Esperance region is located in the south-eastern corner of Western Australia and is the largest region in the state with a land area of 771,276 square kilometres. The region is three times the size of the state of Victoria and just under a third of Western Australia's total land mass. The character of the Goldfields-Esperance region reflects the unique Aboriginal culture, the legacies of early mining and agricultural pioneers and a multi-cultural history of interstate and international migration.

The region includes Western Australia's Golden Outback which stretches from the rugged red earth of the Northern Goldfields and Great Western Woodland to the sweeping snow-white beaches of Esperance and the South Coast.

The coastal Esperance zone boasts a range of stunning natural attractions including national parks, Kepwari Wetland Walk Trail, Woody Island and Lake Monjingup, which exhibit coastal scenery, extraordinary flora and fauna, peaceful bushwalks and well-maintained campgrounds.

Heading inland Kalgoorlie-Boulder is Australia’s largest outback city and the heart of Western Australia’s Goldfields region. With a population of more than 30,000, the city is a dynamic and sophisticated regional centre. The area offers astounding diversity and beauty in its national parks and reserves, tranquil eucalyptus forests, wide sweeping plains, dry lake beds, low lying scrub land and spinifex fields.
