Position Summary

 

LOCATION: Carnarvon, WA

 

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking District Medical Officers - Procedural Anaesthetics to be placed in a Pool for the Midwest Region.

 

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 5 years with the possibility for extension(s).

 

Position Profile:  The District Medical Officer (DMO) Anaesthetist is responsible for providing elective and emergency Anaesthesia in the Carnarvon Regional Hospital. In this role you will have a JCCA (or equivalent) Credentialing. The position gives opportunity to provide General Anaesthesia and Sedation for the visiting Surgeon and Gynaecologist, as well as contributing to the 24-hour on-call Anaesthetics service. DMO-Anaesthetists’ support the Obstetrics services, which includes provision of Epidural and Intrathecal anaesthesia. The DMO-Anaesthetist also contributes to delivery of comprehensive patient care within the Emergency Department and the General Ward, as well as community in certain health services located in remote communities.

 

The position provides the successful candidate ample opportunity to demonstrate clinical leadership, to undertake supervision of Residents and Medical Students, to obtain training and continue their professional development.

 

About the Region: The Midwest comprises the western region in the middle of Western Australia and stretches from the Indian Ocean in the west and bordered by the Pilbara in the north, the Wheatbelt in the south and Goldfields in the south and east. It incorporates four health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison. It covers more than 600,000 square kilometres, nearly one quarter of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region supports a wide range of industry, including mining, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism.     Agriculture is the predominant local industry in Carnarvon, supplying about three quarters of the winter greens for the city of Perth. Carnarvon has much to attract families and tourists, notably fishing, kite surfing and sailing.

 

WACHS is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health  services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half  million square kilometre. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health across rural and remote Western Australia.

This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:

  • The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on a regular basis.
  • Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.
  • Appointments may be made from this pool until 08/01/2024. 

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.

Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), hold  Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or equivalent experience at the date of commencing duties.
