Position Summary

WA Country Health Service is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from Resident Medical Officers who are available to commence from September 2021 at Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie Hospitals for Fixed Term Full Time and Part Time appointments for 6 months.

Please note this is an open EOI pool. You’re submitting an EOI for vacancies at Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie Hospitals. You may be contacted to discuss opportunities within WACHS.

Hospital site information:

Bunbury Hospital at South West Health Campus is a 135 bed public facility co-located with a similarly sized private hospital.  It delivers health care to more than 80,000 of the region’s local residents as well as visitors and acts as the regional referral centre for the district.  The South West Health Campus, Bunbury Hospital provides good exposure to a young and diverse case-mix, reflective of a major teaching hospital, but in a regional/rural setting

Bunbury is a picturesque harbour city on the south west coast of WA, two hours’ drive from Perth in this heart of the state’s premiere holiday region. Bunbury Hospital is the regional hospital for the South West region, comprising a 135-bed hospital that functions as the regional resource centre for the South West region with all major specialties present on site including ICU and CCU/cath lab.

 

Albany hospital underwent a major redevelopment in 2013 and was transformed into the state-of-the-art Albany Health Campus.  From this facility, health care is delivered to more than 59,000 of the regions local residents and visitors.  As the regional hospital, Albany Health Campus also supports the Great Southern’s smaller hospitals to provide improved clinical services to residents closer to home.  The new Albany Health Campus has 81 overnight, 31 same day and 16 inpatient mental health beds with the latest technology and IT applications.  This ensures the delivery of streamlined health services in a contemporary and innovative hospital; responsive service; care via collaborative working practices and quality assured patient services.  The hospital has general and specialised services for a diverse case-mix, along with highly motivated medical staff and many learning opportunities.

Albany is a scenic port city located 400km south of Perth, perched on the Southern Ocean and facing Antarctica.  There is plenty to explore in your time away from work and many outdoor activities to embrace – including sailing, fishing, surfing, cycling, swimming and bush-walking.  A vibrant restaurant/café and arts scene contributes to the attractive lifestyle on offer.

 

Geraldton Hospital has 100 hospital beds for acute medical, surgical, paediatric and maternity patients with a 24-hour Emergency Department, onsite chemotherapy and renal dialysis. It provides a comprehensive range of patient care service including medical imaging and pathology. Visiting specialists, including medical oncology, haematology and renal physicians provide varied learning opportunities for junior doctors. 

Located about 450km from Perth, Geraldton is the capital of Western Australia’s Midwest and gateway to the magnificent Abrolhos Islands.  Geraldton has an enviable Mediterranean climate and a relaxed seaside lifestyle which lends itself to a host of activities, especially water sports. There are good schools in the residential areas which are located a short drive from the hospital.  Geraldton Hospital offers a broad range of services, which provide excellent clinical experience and an outstanding educational program for interns and residents. There is a great track record of Geraldton trainees progressing to higher training positions. 

 

Kalgoorlie Hospital is a 100-bed inpatient facility and the largest regional public hospital in WA.  When you join the team at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, you’ll become part of a close-knit community of health professionals including specialist general surgeons, physicians, paediatricians and emergency medicine doctors.  The hospital supports medical students through the Rural Clinical School, junior doctors rotating from Perth, Workplace Based Assessment doctors and registrars across a number of specialties. Fly in fly out clinicians and private clinicians provide additional supportive health services to the region.

Kalgoorlie is Australia's largest outback city, and the heart of Western Australia’s Goldfields region - Australia’s gold capital. The area is more than three times the size of Victoria and covers almost a third of WA’s total land mass. As the largest region in WA, its diverse natural environments range from sprawling deserts in the North and East to pristine white beaches and emerald seas in the South.  With a population of more than 30,000, the city is a dynamic and sophisticated regional centre and has many chain stores and services.  Sport facilities, clubs and societies and social services abound to support a good work life balance. Community is a key strength of the town. Being located inland the weather in Kalgoorlie is usually sunny, giving options to explore the outback and beach-side Esperance during your time off.  Kalgoorlie is only 600 kilometers or a one hour flight away from Perth.
