Position Summary

WA Country Health Service is seeking dedicated and experienced Rural Generalists / General Practitioners to join our team at Narrogin Health Campus.

The appointment is for a Fixed Term Full Time, Part Time or Sessional contract for a period of 5 years, with the potential for extension(s).

Emergency Overview:

Working as a Senior Medical Practitioner in the Emergency Department, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering critical medical care in a fast-paced environment, contributing significantly to our community's well-being. You’ll provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages, including paediatric and geriatric cases, addressing a wide range of medical presentations such as MVA cases, farm accidents, falls, mental health crises, cardiac arrests, and various medical and surgical emergencies. You'll perform hands-on medical procedures to stabilize patients and participate in resuscitation efforts.

Narrogin Health Service has a 24 hour emergency department which is always staffed by an SMP, shifts within the department are in 12-hour intervals, both during the day (0800-2000) and at night (2000-0800).

In the Emergency Department collaboration is integral, you'll work closely with a dedicated team that includes 1 RMO, 1 Intern, medical students, Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses, graduate nurses, and on-call anaesthetists. Additionally, you'll collaborate with the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) and Metropolitan On-Call Emergency Telehealth Service (MOETS) for added support.

You'll be well-equipped to provide care with access to a fully equipped department including 3 bays, 1 room with 2 beds, 1 room with 1 bed, and 1 Resus room. Plus, you'll have the benefit of 24-hour imaging services (x-rays, CT scans, and blood tests) and access to specialist surgeons.

Ward Overview:

Working as a Senior Medical Practitioner on the Ward, you'll be providing comprehensive medical care to patients spanning various specialties and age groups from paediatrics to the elderly. On a day-to-day basis you will attend ward rounds and actively participating in daily meetings to discuss patient care and treatment plans. You will also play a crucial role in coordinating patient transfers via plane, helicopter, or ambulance, utilising established transfer pathways.

Our ward consists of 33 beds including the sub-acute care unit, palliative care rooms, isolation rooms and three maternity beds. These specialised areas are essential for addressing the unique needs of patients who may require extended recovery periods, end-of-life care, or isolation due to contagious conditions.

Collaboration is at the heart of your role as you'll work closely with a team that comprises 1 RMO, regular nurses, graduate nurses, student doctors, and allied health professionals, including OTs, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, and dieticians.

Shifts are available in 8-hour intervals, both on weekdays (0800-1630) and weekends (0800-1800), allowing for flexibility in your schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Registered medical practitioner with specialist AHPRA registration.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), or Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), or equivalent postgraduate training recognised by the aforementioned colleges.
