Position Summary

MP Year 1-2 $193,482 - $202,378 p.a. Pro Rata (inclusive of base salary, 10% superannuation and professional development allowance)


Fixed Term Part Time appointment will be available for 12 - 14 months.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 30/11/2022.


Position Profile:
This is a 12-month fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery with the Department of ophthalmology based at Fremantle Hospital.

This busy department provides a comprehensive ophthalmic service to south metropolitan Perth and rural Western Australia. It consists of 11 part time consultants providing subspecialty services in in cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic surgery, uveitis, medical and surgical retina.

The position is suited to a senior trainee registrar who has completed or in the process of completing his or her primary specialty training in ophthalmology. Prior vitreoretinal surgical experience is not essential, but competency in cataract surgery, performing retinal laser and intravitreal injections essential.

The weekly timetable consists of 3 theatre session (2 supervised vitreoretinal theatre, 1 unsupervised theatre), 1 injection clinic, 1 laser clinic, 2 vitreoretinal clinics and 2 medical retinal clinics. The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in afterhours management of vitreoretinal disorders.

Fremantle Hospital (FHHS) is a 300-bed specialist hospital focused on providing high-quality aged care, mental health, secondary rehabilitation, planned surgeries and medical services.

Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) 
is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.
