Position Summary

LOCATION: Geraldton, WA 

 

WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Midwest is seeking an experienced Consultant – Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join the team in Geraldton Hospital.

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time and Part Time appointments for 5 years at various hours per fortnight to be negotiated with manager and with the possibility for extension(s).

We currently have one (1) vacancy available.

 

Position Profile:  The Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will be responsible for providing specialist clinical care of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients attending Geraldton Hospital and in the community. In this role you will provide collaboration and teamwork within the maternity care team framework, including amongst midwives, GPs, junior doctors and other members of the healthcare team. The position provides the successful candidate ample opportunity to demonstrate clinical leadership, to undertake training, supervision and mentorship of candidates for the diploma of Obstetrics as well as RANZCOG trainees, hospital service medical practitioners and medical students when appropriate. Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics (RANZCOG) or deemed equivalent at the date of commencing duties.

 

About the Region: The Midwest comprises the western region in the middle of Western Australia and stretches from the Indian Ocean in the west and bordered by the Pilbara in the north, the Wheatbelt in the south and Goldfields in the south and east. It incorporates four health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison. It covers more than 600,000 square kilometres, nearly one quarter of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region supports a wide range of industry, including mining, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism. Mining is the predominant sector in the central and northern parts of the region, with a well-established agricultural sector in the south. Geraldton is the largest town north of Perth and one of the most attractive coastal centres in Western Australia. It is both a seaside resort and an important port. It offers beachside living alongside rural life as well as a wide range of recreational, shopping and educational facilities.

WACHS is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometres.
