Salary:  MP Year 1-7 $133,571 to $178,656 p.a. (inclusive of base salary, 10.5% superannuation and applicable allowances)

POSITION PROFILE

Applications are invited for the position of Surgical Registrar within Geraldton Regional Hospital.  The Surgical Department is a small and busy operating department offering high quality, efficient surgical experience.  The Day Procedures and Theatres area provide consultant surgical and anaesthetic services for the specialties of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, plastics, ENT, emergency and trauma.  The successful registrars will be required to work with consultants in the efficient delivery of KPIs, timely discharge summaries and efficient discharge planning. 

 

These full time positions commence February 2023 for 12 months. Applicants with at least 6 months surgical experience are preferred. 

 

Successful candidates will be responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff including:

  • attending to patients in order of medical urgency taking a history and full medical examinations and arranging appropriate investigations for new admissions
  • assisting with surgical procedures as required
  • managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards under supervision of consultants
  • Collaborating with other Medical and nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management and communication with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services.

Geraldton Regional Hospital has 100 hospital beds for acute medical, surgical, paediatric and maternity patients with a 24-hour Emergency Department, onsite chemotherapy and renal dialysis. It provides a comprehensive range of patient care service including medical imaging and pathology. Visiting specialist provide varied learning opportunities for junior doctors across a range of specialties. 

 

Located about 450km from Perth, Geraldton is the capital of Western Australia’s Midwest and gateway to the magnificent Abrolhos Islands.  Geraldton has an enviable Mediterranean climate and a relaxed seaside lifestyle which lends itself to a host of activities, especially water sports. There are good schools in the residential areas which are located a short drive from the hospital.  Geraldton Regional Hospital offers a broad range of services, which provide excellent clinical experience and an outstanding educational program for interns and residents.

 

The hospital has a strong association with the local Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS), Private Hospital (SJOG) and GP community.  There are plans well underway for redevelopment of the emergency department and inpatient services.  Individual department models of care are under review, with medical workforce profiles strengthened.
