POSITION PROFILE

Bunbury Hospital is the largest and fastest growing hospital in regional Western Australia and is the regional resource centre providing ongoing support for the South West. It is co-located with a private St John Of God Hospital, along with other private services, at the South West Health Campus.

Bunbury Hospital is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar redevelopment to meet the growing demands of the South West population, and to embed Bunbury as a centre for excellent clinical care, innovation, and research.

Medical Specialties is a new department developed to drive an integrated approach to care, and to foster strong partnerships between specialties/departments at Bunbury Hospital, our co-located partners, St John of God Bunbury (private and contracted public activity), local and regional General Practitioners, South West district hospitals, and our Metro hospital colleagues.

This role will work collaboratively with the Medical and Service Co-Directors to meet the hospital’s strategic initiatives and key performance indicators.

As Director of Medical Specialties, you will be responsible for leadership of the largest admitting team at Bunbury Hospital incorporating General Medicine and Geriatrics.  You will also lead strategies to support increasing access to specialist care closer to home for country patients through the development of sub-specialty models alongside a service planning team.   Recognising the growing and ageing population of the South West and the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions and frailty Bunbury Hospital is looking for leadership to support contemporary, innovative models of care based on strong partnerships and integration.

As Director Medical Specialties you will be responsible for ensuring multidisciplinary coordination of patient care working collaboratively with relevant Clinical Nurse Managers, Allied Health leads and other key stakeholders.

The Director will actively be involved in the monitoring, recruitment and retention of medical staff within the department, undertaking annual performance reviews and ensuring new medical staff especially junior medical staff are always appropriately supported and supervised.

The Director will lead a culture of continuous quality improvement, research activities and lifelong learning aligned to the Bunbury Hospital Teaching, Training and Research hub.  They will contribute to continuous quality improvement activities by identifying, facilitating or participating in practices in accordance with the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, health service strategic direction and the WA Public Sector.
