Position Summary

A unique and exciting opportunity is currently available for a suitably experienced and dynamic Director Medical Education based in WACHS Central Office. 

 

This is a Fixed Term Part Time or Full Time (0.8 FTE – 1 FTE) appointment for up to5 years, with the possibility of extension(s).

 

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the medical leadership team in the position of Director Medical Education. Reporting to the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS), this position provides strategic vision, direction and leadership to develop and implement the strategic plan for postgraduate medical education and training within WACHS. This role will be pivotal in developing WACHS as a leader in rural medical education and training, and expanding the training capacity and pathways across WACHS to grow our own medical workforce.

The successful applicant will be passionate about developing rural training and education, with extensive medical education experience and the ability to develop and execute strategic plans. The Director Medical Education:

  • Develops and leads the implementation of the WACHS Medical Education and Training Strategic Plan.
  • Develops and nurtures partnerships with external stakeholders including but not limited to, WA medical schools, metropolitan Health Services, Post Graduate Medical Council of WA (PMCWA) and Australian Specialist Colleges;
  • Represents WACHS on committees to advocate and advise on medical training and education requirements and development for country doctors.
  • Liaises with WACHS regional management, particularly Regional Directors and Regional Directors Medical Services, regarding postgraduate medical education and funding arrangements for junior doctor placements. 
  • In collaboration with the regional Directors of Clinical Training, assists in the performance management and career development of junior doctors, including pastoral care.
  • Responsible for the operational oversight of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) including reporting, financial management, and human resource management.

Applications are accepted from those with Medical Board of Australia specialist registration, including Fellows of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and/or Australian College of Medical Administration.  The successful application will demonstrate:

  • Extensive clinical experience and demonstrated commitment to medical education.
  • Highly developed contemporary knowledge of issues and trends related to medical education.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including reporting, negotiation, advocacy and leadership skills.
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, with a proven ability to provide innovative thinking in identifying solutions to complex problems.

Remuneration

The salary range is based on two classifications under the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners - AMA Industrial Agreement 2016. For detailed salary breakdowns please refer to Schedule 1 – Full-Time Annual Base Salary Rates – page 71.

  • If you hold FRACGP/FACRRM qualifications, you will fall under the Senior Medical Practitoner classification.
  • If you hold any other specialist qualification recognised by the Australian Medical Association, you will fall under the Consultant classification.
