WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking District Medical Officers - Procedural Obstetrics to be placed in a Pool for the Midwest Region.

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time and Part Time appointments for 5 years with the possibility for extension(s).

 

Eligibility to Apply: All WA health system employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to access health care facilities, pursuant to the Health Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (HWAD), Residential Aged Care Facility Worker Access Directions (ACWD) and the COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination and Vaccination Program Policy, unless the employee is exempt pursuant to the HWAD and/or ACWD.

 

Position Profile:  The District Medical Officer (DMO) – Obstetrician is responsible for providing an advanced level of elective and emergency Obstetric services for the Carnarvon Regional Hospital. The DMO-Obstetrician will have opportunity to provide (Category 2-3) Obstetrics as well as assisting the visiting Obstetric/Gynaecologist. The 24-hour on-call Obstetric service is supported, first and foremost, by a DMO-Anaesthetist who may provide Epidural and Intrathecal anaesthesia, as well as other DMOs’ and the Senior Medical Officer (SMO). DMO-Obstetricians contribute to delivery of comprehensive patient care within the Emergency Department and the General Ward as well as certain health services located in remote communities. The position provides the successful candidate ample opportunity to demonstrate clinical leadership, to undertake supervision of Residents and Medical Students, to obtain training and continue their professional development.

About the Region: The Midwest comprises the western region in the middle of Western Australia and stretches from the Indian Ocean in the west and bordered by the Pilbara in the north, the Wheatbelt in the south and Goldfields in the south and east. It incorporates four health districts - Gascoyne, Geraldton, Midwest and Murchison. It covers more than 600,000 square kilometres, nearly one quarter of the State, with its population concentrated along the coast. The region supports a wide range of industry, including mining, agriculture, aquaculture and tourism. Agriculture is the predominant local industry in Carnarvon, supplying about three quarters of the winter greens for the city of Perth. Carnarvon has much to attract families and tourists, notably fishing, kite surfing and sailing.

WACHS is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health  services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half  million square kilometre. Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or equivalent experience at the date of commencing duties.
