Position Summary

Hospital Site:  Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie Hospitals

 

Salary:  MP Year 1-3 $103,412 to $123,444 p.a. (inclusive of base salary, 11.5% superannuation and applicable allowances)

Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 12 months to commence in January 2025, with the possibility of extension(s).

 

Position Profile: Rural Adult Physician Training Opportunities and Rotations (RAPTOR) One is a 12-month full time program for WACHS junior doctors (PGY2+) who are interested in rural Physician Training.

The program aims to provide the successful candidate with relevant term rotations and professional development to help prepare them to apply for Basic Physician Training.

As part of the program you will be given priority for the following professional development opportunities:

  • Clinical Service Improvement Program, Research Project or audit
  • Possibility to complete and publish Research Project with the Busselton Population Medical Research Institute
  • WACHS Foundations of Leadership Program
  • Australian Resuscitation Council Advanced Life Support 2 Course*
  • Senior clinician mentoring and support
  • CV and Interview Skills education and support
  • Teaching opportunities with Rural Clinical School medical students; and
  • Opportunities to present at Hospital Grand Round and departmental teaching.

The successful applicant will be matched with suitable rotations that can include at least two medical terms, ED term and a Clinical Service Improvement term.

In 2025 RAPTOR One will be available at the following WACHS sites.

  • Albany Health Campus
  • Broome Health Campus
  • Geraldton Regional Hospital
  • Bunbury Regional Hospital
  • Kalgoorlie Health Campus

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Must hold unrestricted general registration with the Medical Board of Australia prior to commencement in the program.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to working in a rural setting, with a strong interest in pursuing a rural physician career.
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, colleagues and others involved in health services to provide high quality health care.
  4. Demonstrated participation in continuing medical education activities to maintain up to date knowledge and skills.
  5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills to provide safe and timely patient-centred care.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated clinical experience for a minimum of 12 months in a rural Western Australian Hospital employed by WACHS.
