This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:

• The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on a regular basis.
• Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.

Position Profile: The successful applicants for Senior Registrar NETS will provide comprehensive diagnostic assessment and advanced clinical skills during neonatal and infant retrieval. The Retrieval Senior Registrar will have a team approach to provide safe, effective and well organised care and transport of patients in collaboration with medical, nursing and allied health professionals.

Area Profile: The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) treats children from around Western Australia and is committed to programs that promote lifelong health in children and adolescents. CAHS is made up of Neonatology, Community Health (CACH), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).

NETS WA islocated at PCH on the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands. Senior neonatal registrars will be involved in the retrieval and transport of sick newborns from metropolitan and regional Western Australia, some of which occur over long distances, utilising the services of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. There is also the potential for involvement in retrieval and transfer of cardiac patients to the children’s hospitals in Melbourne and Brisbane.

The remaining units of the Neonatology Department consist of:

• PCH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located on the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands. The PCH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the sole tertiary surgical NICU in Western Australia; the unit will provide exposure to and involvement in the diagnosis and management of a variety of neonatal surgical conditions and congenital anomalies. In addition, most outborn infants who require neonatal intensive care are transferred to the PCH NICU
• KEMH Perinatal Centre is located at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco. This is the largest tertiary perinatal NICU in Australia, admitting over 100 neonates <28 weeks gestation annually. All complex pregnancies within Western Australia are managed by feto-maternal medicine specialists at KEMH. The unit will provide an opportunity for clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of acute neonatal problems, especially those associated with prematurity. There will also be a wealth of experience to give competence in delivery room resuscitation, ventilator management of acute respiratory diseases, continuous monitoring and nutritional support of the very preterm or very sick newborn
