Position Summary

Location:  Broome, Western Australia

 

 Hospital Site: WA Country Health, Kimberley Region

Based at Broome Hospital

 

Salary:

Registrar Year 1-7, $156,015 to $170,738 pa*
North of the 26th parallel
* includes base salary $131,990 to $144,314 pa, professional Development allowance $10,167 pa and 10.5% employer contributed Superannuation.  Rates as at October 2022.

OR

Health Service Medical Practitioner Years 1-6, $254,914 to $320,786 pa*
North of the 26th parallel

* includes base salary $202,641 to $262,254 pa, professional Development allowance $30,996 pa and 10.5% employer contributed Superannuation.  Rates as at October 2022.

Please note, employees who moves between different WA Department of Health entities will bring their entitlements (annual leave, long service leave, personal leave) with them. Taking a rural contract is not viewed as a break in service.

Fixed Term Full Time appointment for 6 or 12 months commencing in February 2023, with the possibility of extension. We would welcome an earlier start date.

 

 

POSITION PROFILE

We are seeking an enthusiastic registrar to join our team in Broome from February 2023, for 6 or 12 months. There is a strong team of resident consultant paediatricians providing close supervision and support in our hospital, while also giving opportunities for independent practice. 

 

The positions in Broome is accredited by the Advanced Training Committee in General Paediatrics of the Royal Australian College of Physicians as General Paediatrics (Rural) with a Perinatal Component.  Six month terms are accredited as sixmonths General Paediatrics only. A 12 month term may be accredited as including 6m Developmental / Behavioural; dual General Paediatrics / Community Child Health trainees may be accredited to complete 6 months Community Child Health.

 

In this position you will be required to participate in the on call roster. Across the team, we visit other regional towns & communities, with travel approximately 5 days per 4-6 weeks. Outpatients encompass diverse general paediatrics and dedicated developmental services, with a strong Aboriginal Health focus.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL TO THE ROLE

Current Registrars and Senior Registrars are invited to apply. Appointment will be based on skills and experience, with acute care, neonatal and developmental experience an advantage. Applicants interested in a 12 month position are preferred.

Essential

                      I.         Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.

                     II.        Enrolled in Paediatrics Training Program, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent and demonstrates satisfactory progression appropriate for an advanced trainee.

                   III.        Demonstrated current clinical experience in paediatrics and the management of acutely unwell children and neonates.

                   IV.         Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

                    V.        Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching of resident, nursing staff and medical students.

                   VI.         Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance (Patient Safety and Quality), quality assurance, continuous improvement and clinical research in the field of paediatrics and adolescent health.

                  VII.        Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.

                VIII.        Current C Class drivers license and an ability and willingness to travel including overnight stays away from home.

                   IX.         Experienced or interest in rural paediatric practice in rural setting.

Desirable

                      I.        Possession of current Advanced Paediatric Life Support certification

                     II.        Demonstrated ability to monitor and review own effectiveness

                   III.        Experience working with clients from a variety of cultural / ethnicbackgrounds.
