Position Summary

An exciting opportunity is available for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) living in WA to gain an orientation to the Western Australian (WA) healthcare system at Armadale Health Service or Rockingham General Hospital for an observership program. The Observership Program is for IMGs who are not currently employed as medical practitioners in the WA healthcare system and have not worked elsewhere in Australia as a medical practitioner.  Observerships will commence from late August 2023.

The program involves a clinical observership (generally 6-16 weeks in duration, depending on individual knowledge and experience) and access to the hospital’s clinical teaching and educational resources.

The observership program is a WA Health initiative to support eligible IMGs in WA who are not currently registered as medical practitioners to get an orientation to the hospital and healthcare system in WA. This program is specifically for IMGs without any current employment experience within the Australian healthcare system.  If you are currently working within the WA healthcare system and seeking further employment options, please discuss with your current employer.   Additional information on the selection criteria and observership can be found in the attachments.

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria, and successfully complete the requirements of the observership program may have the opportunity to participate in a 12-month Workplace based assessment (WBA) Program at Armadale Health Service or Rockingham General Hospital but this is not guaranteed. Acceptance into the observership program does not guarantee automatic acceptance into the WBA program. Selection into the WBA programs is separate to the application for the observership program.

For further information about the WBA programs please see the attached factsheet or contact the relevant hospital through the contacts listed below.
