Position Summary

This is a Fixed Term Full Time appointment for up to 3 years. Fixed Term appointments include the possibility of extension(s).

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.

Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint to the position of Psychiatric Service Registrar. The successful applicant will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary and medical teams. Under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist, this position provides assessment, management for clients requiring specialist psychiatric care. The Psychiatric Service Registrar will also provide advice to referrers and colleagues whilst working with clients both in the community and those attending the hospital. 

Area Profile: The area supported by WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Midwest covers approximately 601 859 km2 and covers a large proportion of central WA. It is bounded by the Wheatbelt, Goldfields and Kimberley regions. The area has a population of around 64 884, of which 10.6% are Indigenous Australians. Geraldton Hospital is the largest health campus in the Midwest and the main hub of the mental health service is situated there. The Greater Geraldton area is the largest population area and accounts for about 80% of the population. There are also offices in Meekatharra and Carnarvon.

The Midwest is a regional, rural and remote area characterised by great diversity including coastal, farming and desert areas. This diversity provides a large array of professional and personal opportunities, including attractive conditions that are conducive to enhancing family, career and recreational life. This is an exciting time to be joining the team. The Midwest Mental Health & Community Alcohol & Drug Service is currently undergoing a significant reform and an inpatient unit as well as a short stay unit are in development, with practical completion due by 2023. A low-acuity step-up/step-down facility has recently opened, which has commenced servicing the community in a recovery-oriented manner.
