WA Country Health Service (WACHS), Albany Health Campus is seeking Service and Trainee Emergency Medicine Registrars for appointments in 2024.

POSITION PROFILE

We are looking for enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Service Registrars as well as Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Trainees who want to combine a great mix of rural and regional medicine with one of WA’s best kept secrets in terms of location and lifestyle. Located on the South Coast of Western Australia, Albany is a town of 30,000 people with all the amenities of a small city with great restaurants, a state-of-the-art Entertainment Centre and stunning surrounds, with some of the best beaches in Australia close by.

Our ED has 2 resus bays, 8 acute cubicles, 4 fast track cubicles as well as integrated computerised work management and pathology / radiology systems. We also have an ED Short Stay Unit. There is an expanding cohort (currently ten) of committed locally resident FACEMs, whose sub-specialty professional interests include teaching/simulation, ultrasound and research. We have a broad and interesting case mix, which includes all categories of adult and paediatric cases, medical and surgical. Paediatrics make up approximately 20% of our presentations. Major trauma is not uncommon.

The roster comprises five doctors per shift (including the FACEM) during the day and two doctors overnight with FACEM on-call so there is excellent supervision and apprentice-style learning. The registrar has a segregated five hours of formal education per week. We are accredited for 24 months of Emergency Medicine Training with ACEM.

Applicants interested in Service Regsitrar position will need to have previous emergency medicine experience.  If you are interested in a Trainee positions you must be registered with the Australian Medical Board and registered as a trainee with the Australian College for Emergency Medicine.
