Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint to the position of Registrar – Service – Psychiatry. The successful applicant will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and medical team. Under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist, this position provides assessment and management of clients requiring specialist psychiatric management. Registrar – Service Psychiatry will also provide assessment and management advice to agencies referring clients who are affected by psychiatric symptomatology whilst also working with clients presenting in the hospital emergency department and the community as required.

Area Profile: The area supported by WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Midwest is approximately 601 859km2 in and covers a large proportion of the middle of the state. It is bounded by the Wheatbelt, the Goldfields and the Kimberly. The area has a population of around 64 884, including 10.6% indigenous Australians. Geraldton hospital is the largest health campus and the mental health service is situated there. The greater Geraldton area is the largest population area and holds about 80% of the population. There are also offices in  Meekatharra and Carnarvon. The Midwest is an area characterised by great diversity and including coastal, farming and desert areas. This diversity provides a large array of professional and recreational opportunities. This is an exciting time to be joining the team. The community mental health and drug and alcohol service  is undergoing a significant reform at the moment and an inpatient unit and a short stay unit are in the process of being built with practical completion by 2023. There is also a step up step down facility being built as well. This in an opportunity for the right applicant to have a major impact on the development of the service to enable its vision of providing best care to the community.
