Position Summary

2021 WA Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Service Medical Registrar (SMR) Centralised Recruitment

This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full-Time, Fixed Term Part-Time (hours negotiable – availability and minimum working hours may vary by site) RMO and SMR appointments for the 2021 clinical year commencing 11 January 2021 (RMO) and 01 February 2021 (SMR).

Salary: RMO Year 1-3 $100,271 - $120,121 or Registrar Year 1-7 $130,145 - $174,823 p.a. pro rata (inclusive of base salary, 9.5% superannuation and professional development allowance)

This centralised recruitment process is for RMO and SMR positions at the below participating WA Health Services and hospital sites, as well as their general, rural and regional hospital placement sites:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH)
  • King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH)
  • Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH)
  • Royal Perth Hospital (RPH)
  • Rockingham Peel Group (RPG)
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH)
  • WA Country Health Service (WACHS)
  • Joondalup Health Campus (JHC)*
  • St John of God Midland Public Hospital (SJGMPH)**

*JHC is part of Ramsay Health Care Australia. Employment terms and conditions are contained within the Ramsay Health Care Employment Agreement.

**SJGMPH is part of St John of God. Employment terms and conditions are contained within the St John of God Health Care Enterprise Agreement and may differ from WA Health hospitals.

 

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 9 October 2020. Contracts of up to 24 months may be offered with the possibility of extension(s), at the discretion of the employing health services.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies, it may also be used to fill other ‘similar’ vacancies throughout the above health services. In addition to this, should a successful applicant decline a vacancy, then other applicants appointed to the pool may also be selected from this process.

 

The WA Health System – Medical Practitioners – AMA Industrial Agreement 2016 (Agreement) provides for the engagement of interns and their subsequent transition to RMO Year 1 and 2, for a fixed term period of three years. All WA interns employed under this Agreement who remain employed under this WA Health Agreement, will be entitled to placement as an RMO with WA Health in 2021. Those who remain employed by Fiona Stanley Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital or WA Country Health Service, where they commenced their internship, must either elect to remain employed by their current employing Health Service Provider (HSP), or apply to transfer to another HSP, as part of this annual centralised recruitment process. Remaining with the same HSP or transferring to a new HSP is subject to successful application to a competitive recruitment process in which best efforts will be made to accommodate applicants’ preferences. This includes the operational ability of HSPs to accommodate existing and new employees, which may vary on an annual basis.

Applicants must have worked for a minimum of 6 months as a registered medical practitioner in an Australian hospital or comparable hospital setting.

When assessing suitability against the above criteria, a comparable hospital setting will be defined by the Medical Board of Australia approved list of competent authority countries.

The Medical Board of Australia states that eligible competent authority countries are New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and the United States of America. Preference for appointment will be given to practitioners who have gained this clinical and procedural experience within the last two years.

 

Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

Basic Physician Training (BPT)

Adult Internal Medicine:

Applications for Basic Physician Training (Adult Internal Medicine) (BPT) will be advertised on and submitted via MedJobsWA. Applications for training will be separate to applications for employment.

Candidates must have an RMO or SMR position in 2021 at Fiona Stanley, Royal Perth or Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital to be eligible to apply for a training place within their employer’s BPT Network.

Paediatrics and Child Health:

Entry into the BPT pathway follows a separate application process. To be eligible for this process, candidates seeking to register with the RACP as a first year basic paediatric trainee are first required to secure employment for 12 months with Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) as a resident or a registrar, or secure employment for 12 months with Fiona Stanley Hospital as a paediatric or neonatal registrar.

Prospective trainees, who have accepted eligible employment, will be informed of the BPT selection process by PCH Postgraduate Medical Education (PCH PGME).
